Specialized Oversize/Overweight Permits
|
The Port of Brownsville allows shippers to securely order specialized
oversize/overweight permits online. The permits cover travel between Gateway
International Bridge or the Veterans International Bridge at Los Tomates and the
Port of Brownsville for vehicles weighing no more than the Mexican Legal Weight
Limit or 125,000 lbs. For a more detailed explanation, see below.

Permit Information
The Port of Brownsville specialized
oversize/overweight permit allows for the movement of oversize or overweight
vehicles carrying cargo on the following roads:
- State Highway 48/State Highway 4 between the
Gateway International Bridge and the entrance to the Port of Brownsville
or
- U.S. Highway 77/U.S. Highway 83 and State Highway 48/State Highway 4
between the Veterans International Bridge at Los Tomates and the entrance to
the Port of Brownsville
Effective October 14, 2024, All OW/OS vehicles driving along SH 48 between SH 4 (4 corners) & SH 100 will be re-routed to FM 511 @ SH 48 up to I69E & along I69E to & from Veteran's International Bridge at Los Tomates. SH 550 toll road from SH 48 to I-69E can also be used.

The gross weight of cargo and equipment shall not
exceed the allowable permittable axle load, the Mexican Legal Weight Limit,
or 125,000 lbs, whichever is less, and the dimensions of the load and vehicle
shall not exceed 12' wide, 15'6" high, or 110' long. For more information
